Soyapango driver arrested after fatal head-on collision

A 21-year-old man, Luis Alberto Palacios Montenegro, was arrested following a fatal traffic accident in Soyapango, San Salvador Este. According to the National Civil Police (PNC), Palacios Montenegro was driving a microbus in the wrong direction on the old road to Agua Caliente when he collided head-on with a motorcycle.

The collision resulted in the immediate death of the motorcyclist and left a passenger injured. Palacios Montenegro faces criminal charges for involuntary manslaughter and involuntary injury.

This incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns in El Salvador. Data from the National Road Safety Observatory indicates that between January 1 and August 31, the country recorded 15,041 traffic accidents, resulting in 964 deaths and 10,564 injuries, with motorcyclists accounting for 440 of the fatalities.
