Soyapango streets cleared of informal vendors in revitalization plan

The municipality of San Salvador Este has implemented a revitalization plan to recover public spaces and improve mobility in the urban center of Soyapango. As part of the first phase of the 'Project for the Revitalization of Streets, Sidewalks, and Public Spaces,' authorities cleared hundreds of informal vendors from sidewalks and roadways.

The intervention targeted several key areas, including Calle Roosevelt, Avenida Cuba, 4.ª Avenida Sur, 2.ª Calle Oriente, 6.ª Avenida Norte, and the Bulevar del Ejército near Plaza Mundo. The operation involved removing structures, debris, and various goods such as clothing, food, electronics, and produce to restore pedestrian access and order to the streets.

While municipal officials stated the actions contribute to the improvement of public spaces, displaced vendors reported that the local government provided no alternative locations for their businesses.
