A major fire destroyed the Apollon restaurant in the New Town area of Sozopol, Bulgaria, early on Friday morning. The blaze, which was reported around 05:04, was initially attributed to a faulty refrigerator in the kitchen.

The fire spread rapidly due to wind and wooden structures, affecting nearby buildings including hotels and a Bulgarian Red Cross base, the latter of which had its wooden facade completely destroyed. Between 20 and 25 tourists were evacuated from nearby hotels and accommodation units to safety. While some hotel rooms sustained damage, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs, possibly from gas canisters, during the incident. Firefighting teams from Sozopol and Burgas worked to contain the flames and prevent further spread. Experts estimate the damages to the hotel and the Red Cross base could exceed 1.5 million euros.
