SP Energy Networks warns 3.5 million customers of potential winter power cuts
SP Energy Networks is advising more than 3.5 million households and businesses to prepare for potential power outages this winter. The electricity network operator is distributing annual winter safety leaflets throughout October to customers in North and Mid Wales, central and southern Scotland, Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Shropshire.
The guidance encourages customers to take practical steps such as keeping torches, spare batteries, and warm clothing ready, as well as saving the 105 power cut number. The company noted that while power cuts are not frequent, winter storms and windy weather can impact the network.
Specialized support is available through the free Priority Services Register. This service is intended for vulnerable individuals, including those who rely on medical equipment, people aged 60 and over, households with children under five, and those with long-term health needs. Customers are also urged to keep their contact details updated to ensure timely communication and facilitate compensation processing during outages.
