S&P Global to acquire majority stake in Agusto & Co., expanding Africa footprint
S&P Global has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Agusto & Co., a Pan‑African credit rating agency that operates in Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda and Ghana. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2026. Agusto & Co. will continue to function as an independent rating agency, retaining its own methodologies and issuing ratings under its own name. The deal is intended to strengthen S&P Global’s presence in Africa’s domestic debt markets, improve credit transparency, and support the development of local capital markets by combining S&P’s global analytical expertise with Agusto’s regional knowledge. S&P Global Ratings President Yann Le Pallec said the partnership will foster informed analysis and increase investor confidence across the continent, while Managing Director Yinka Adelekan described it as a transformational milestone that fulfills the late founder’s vision. Financial terms were not disclosed and the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on S&P Global’s financial results.
