S&P Global appoints Thomas Kim as Chief Legal Officer

S&P Global has appointed Thomas Kim as its next Chief Legal Officer, effective October 19, 2026. Kim will report directly to President and CEO Martina Cheung and will oversee the company’s legal, government affairs, risk, and compliance functions.

Kim brings over 30 years of legal experience to the role, having previously served as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at both Gartner and Thomson Reuters. His appointment is part of a leadership transition following the announced retirement of current Chief Legal Officer Steve Kemps. To ensure continuity, Kemps will remain with the company as a special adviser to Cheung through December 31, 2026.

Cheung noted that Kim’s expertise in complex market matters will provide strategic perspective to the leadership team, while also expressing gratitude to Kemps for his contributions to the company’s governance and compliance framework.
