S&P Global completes acquisition of OpenZeppelin
S&P Global has finalized its acquisition of OpenZeppelin, a firm specializing in smart contract security and onchain finance standards. The deal, which was first announced on September 17, 2026, closed in under six weeks.
OpenZeppelin, founded in 2015, maintains the OpenZeppelin Contracts open-source library, which supports over $38 trillion in transferred value, including major stablecoins and tokenized funds. The company’s security team has conducted more than 900 engagements, identifying over 10,000 vulnerabilities prior to production.
Through this acquisition, S&P Global aims to expand its risk assessment capabilities into the technology-risk layer of onchain financial products. OpenZeppelin will operate as a standalone unit under the leadership of founder Demian Brener, reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings. S&P Global stated that the transaction is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results.
