S&P Global Ratings assesses impact of Turkey fund investigation
S&P Global Ratings has assessed the impact of the ongoing fund investigation in Turkey on the country's credit profile. Karen Vartapetov, Director and Lead Analyst for CEE and CIS Country Credit Ratings, stated that the regulatory response and policy actions taken by authorities have been “fast and convincing.”
Vartapetov noted that the situation appears to be isolated and has not caused significant negative impacts on the broader financial system. Specifically, there has been no major reaction in key areas such as exchange rates, dollarization, or the liquidity of the banking and finance sectors.
If the fund crisis remains contained and households maintain confidence in real currency-denominated assets, S&P does not expect downward pressure on Turkey's credit rating. The agency's next assessment of Turkey's credit rating and outlook is scheduled for release on October 16. In its previous assessment in April, S&P confirmed Turkey's credit rating at 'BB-/B' with a 'stable' outlook.
