S&P Global Ratings validates ShafDB's sustainable finance framework for African housing
S&P Global Ratings has confirmed that the Shelter Afrique Development Bank’s (ShafDB) Sustainability Finance Framework complies with the International Capital Markets Association’s Green Bond Principles, Social Bond Principles and Sustainability Bond Guidelines. The validation, issued together with a Second‑Party Opinion, was prepared with technical assistance from the Global Green Growth Institute, the Global Trust Fund for Sustainable Finance and collaboration from Luxembourg. It clears the way for ShafDB’s planned bond issuances – a West Africa FCFA bond and an East Africa multi‑currency bond – aimed at financing affordable, socially inclusive, green, energy‑ and water‑efficient and climate‑resilient housing for low‑ and middle‑income households across the continent. By meeting international market standards, the framework is expected to boost the bank’s credibility and attract private and institutional capital to address Africa’s growing housing deficit while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
