Spaarne Gasthuis to centralize 24-hour care in Haarlem
Spaarne Gasthuis has announced its decision to maintain full 24-hour hospital services in Haarlem. The hospital plans to concentrate all acute and complex care at the Boerhaavelaan location in Schalkwijk, which will undergo phased renovations over the coming years. The new facility is projected to be completed by 2033.
Under this plan, the Hoofddorp location will transition into a day hospital dedicated exclusively to scheduled care. Regional municipalities, including Haarlem, Heemstede, Bloemendaal, Zandvoort, and Haarlemmermeer, have expressed relief at the clarity provided after two years of uncertainty. Local officials emphasized the importance of maintaining accessible emergency services and reliable care for the region.
The redevelopment involves ongoing discussions regarding financing and spatial planning between the hospital and the municipality of Haarlem, including potential land sales to support the project.
