Space agencies advance orbital life support and research capabilities

Space agencies are advancing life support and scientific capabilities aboard orbital stations. The Chinese space station has upgraded its kitchen facilities with advanced smart appliances. Developed in collaboration with private companies, the new suite includes specialized devices for water purification, rapid low-power microwave heating, and the world’s first space-rated air fryer. These improvements allow astronauts to prepare hot meals, such as steaks and baked goods, in approximately 20 minutes, while the food menu has expanded to nearly 200 varieties.

Simultaneously, the Epsilon mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS) is nearing completion. French astronaut Sophie Adenot, representing the European Space Agency, is returning to Earth after an eight-month mission. During her stay, she conducted nearly 20 hours of spacewalks and participated in approximately 200 scientific experiments. The mission, which included crew members from NASA and Roscosmos, focuses on utilizing microgravity research to produce tangible scientific applications for use on Earth.
