Space experts discuss international cooperation and India's Gaganyaan mission

During the Bengaluru Space Expo, astronaut Sunita Williams emphasized the necessity of international cooperation for future human spaceflight. She stated that as humanity returns to the Moon and explores deeper into space, missions should be conducted as a collective human effort rather than by individual nations. Williams noted that diverse cultural approaches to problem-solving and the ability to compare different technologies, such as modules and spacesuits, are vital for success.

Williams also highlighted the need for future space stations to become more self-reliant, specifically regarding onboard databases for troubleshooting and the use of 3D printing to reduce dependence on Earth. Additionally, Tom Shelley of VAST Space mentioned that the company is developing Haven-1, a commercial space station scheduled for launch next year.

Astronaut Group Captain Angad Pratap discussed India’s Gaganyaan mission, describing it as a critical technological milestone that will establish India as the fourth country with independent human spaceflight capability. Pratap noted that Gaganyaan serves as the foundation for broader ambitions, including the development of the Bharatiya Antariksha Station.
