Space Seed Holdings discusses waste recycling with Gadjah Mada University
Space Seed Holdings Co., Ltd. visited the Office of International Affairs at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to discuss waste recycling technologies. The discussions focused on the economic viability of biotechnology-driven recycling, such as composting and Black Soldier Fly larvae cultivation, provided that waste is strictly sorted at the source.
Addressing the waste crisis in Yogyakarta, where the closure of the Piyungan landfill has created a shortage of disposal sites, the parties explored decentralized solutions. UGM is prioritizing locally developed technologies over large-scale imported equipment to manage organic and medical waste.
Regarding medical waste, which requires high-temperature incineration to ensure pathogen inactivation, UGM’s Faculty of Engineering has collaborated with PT Adil Makmur Sentosa to design a medical waste incinerator. The device aims to meet WHO standards for secondary combustion temperature and residence time.
