Space technology firms Kepler and SpaceSail advance orbital networks

The low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite sector is seeing significant commercial and financial developments. Toronto-based Kepler Communications has officially activated the first operational orbital data relay network for private and public clients. Utilizing a constellation equipped with optical terminals, the system establishes precise laser links between satellites, aerial platforms, and ground stations, enabling real-time data processing directly in orbit.

In China, Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, operating as SpaceSail, has secured approximately 890 million euros (7 billion yuan) in a record Series B funding round. This investment, involving 18 investors including state-supported Shanghai Alliance Investment, brings the company's valuation to roughly 6.4 billion euros. The capital is intended to accelerate the construction of its Qianfan constellation, as the company seeks to compete with SpaceX's Starlink in the global satellite internet and direct-to-device connectivity market.
