SpaceX acquires AI coding startup Anysphere for $60 billion

SpaceX exercised its option to buy Anysphere, the parent of the AI‑powered code editor Cursor, in a transaction valued at about $60 billion. The deal, announced on 16 June 2026, is being paid entirely in SpaceX stock and follows the company's recent Nasdaq listing.

The acquisition is aimed at bolstering SpaceX’s xAI division, integrating Cursor’s AI‑assisted programming tools into the firm’s own software‑development platform. Anysphere, founded in 2022 by MIT alumni, saw its valuation surge from $2.5 billion to over $30 billion within a year, with annual revenues exceeding $2 billion. Its co‑founder and CEO Michael Truell, a 25‑year‑old entrepreneur, has become one of the youngest tech billionaires.

Industry observers note that the purchase ranks among the largest AI‑related deals to date and gives SpaceX a strategic edge in automating code for its aerospace, automotive and robotics projects.
