SpaceX and SoftBank accelerate massive AI and satellite investments
Major technology players are aggressively expanding their footprints in the artificial intelligence and satellite sectors. SpaceX is targeting a massive market estimated at $28.5 trillion, driven largely by AI infrastructure, enterprise software, and its rapidly growing Starlink satellite internet service. Starlink's subscriber base doubled over the past year to 12 million, and the company's AI solution and infrastructure revenue saw a sevenfold increase compared to the previous year.
Simultaneously, SoftBank Group has issued a record-breaking $11.1 billion in high-yield junk bonds to fund its massive investments in OpenAI. This move is part of a broader strategy led by Masayoshi Son to secure a significant stake in the AI leader, potentially reaching a 13% ownership level. While the bond issuance saw high investor demand, it also highlights the increasing debt burden and high financing costs associated with the global race for AI dominance.
