SpaceX and Tesla explore potential merger amid strong Q3 results

Elon Musk has confirmed that SpaceX and Tesla have established independent special committees to evaluate a potential merger. If realized, the combined entity could be valued at approximately $3.5 trillion. Musk noted that while the merger is not certain and requires shareholder approval, he believes the integration offers significant synergies in artificial intelligence, chip design, robotics, and orbital transportation.

SpaceX reported a strong third quarter for 2026, with revenue rising 161% year-over-year to $14.6 billion. This growth was driven largely by its “Super Intelligence” division, which generated $7.56 billion, surpassing Starlink revenue of $5.25 billion. The company also achieved its first operating profit as a public company.

Tesla reported third-quarter revenue of approximately $28 billion, remaining largely flat compared to the previous year. While net income fell 43% to $787 million, the company reported a free cash flow of $1.53 billion. Tesla is heavily investing in autonomy and robotics, with FSD (Supervised) subscriptions increasing by 67% year-over-year. The company has set a long-term goal to reach an annual production capacity of 5 million vehicles by 2030.
