SpaceX reports first quarterly profit amid potential Tesla merger talks

SpaceX has achieved its first quarterly net profit since going public, reporting $4.4 billion for the third quarter of 2026. This marks a significant turnaround from a $1.05 billion net loss during the same period in 2025. The company’s revenue surged 161% year-over-year to $14.58 billion, driven largely by its Super Intelligence (SI) segment, which saw revenue grow 830% to $7.56 billion.

Elon Musk confirmed that special committees consisting of independent directors have been formed at both SpaceX and Tesla to formally explore a potential merger. If realized, the combined entity could reach a market valuation of approximately $3.5 trillion. Musk noted that while he supports the idea due to synergies in AI, chip design, and robotics, the decision rests with the committees and requires shareholder approval.

Other key financial highlights include Starlink connectivity revenue increasing 69% to $5.25 billion, with the subscriber base reaching 13.6 million. SpaceX also reported significant capital expenditures of $19.6 billion for the quarter, including over $16 billion dedicated to AI infrastructure.
