SpaceX CEO Signals Possible Tesla Merger Amid AI Satellite Plans
SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell told CNBC that a future merger with Tesla is not ruled out, noting “there are synergies between Tesla and SpaceX in our futures” and that such a move could make Elon Musk’s workload easier. She emphasized that her current priority remains rocket production, Starlink broadband expansion and International Space Station missions.
Shotwell also announced the timeline for SpaceX’s first AI data‑center satellite, “AI1,” slated for launch by the end of 2027 after initial testing on Starlink satellites. The company debuted on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX on June 12, opening at $150 and closing at $160.95, giving it a market value of about $2.1 trillion. Analysts expect the stock to face volatility as index funds adjust holdings and the firm may be added to the Nasdaq‑100 within weeks.
The remarks underscore the intertwining of SpaceX’s space, broadband and artificial‑intelligence ambitions with Tesla’s electric‑vehicle operations, fueling speculation about a combined entity that could dominate multiple high‑tech sectors.
