SpaceX negotiates multi‑billion AI computing contract with US Pentagon

SpaceX is in talks with the US Department of Defense to supply data‑center capacity for training artificial‑intelligence models, a deal that could be worth billions of dollars. The Wall Street Journal reports that the arrangement would extend SpaceX’s longstanding Pentagon partnership beyond rockets and satellite services into cloud‑computing infrastructure.

The contract would join earlier SpaceX cloud agreements, including a multi‑year deal with Google for about 110,000 Nvidia chips and monthly revenues of $920 million from Google and $1.25 billion from Anthropic. These deals position SpaceX as a new player in AI compute services, competing with firms such as CoreWeave.

The negotiations occur as SpaceX broadens its AI footprint, having acquired Elon Musk’s xAI, completed a $75 billion IPO that valued the combined space‑AI company at roughly $1.77 trillion, and announced the purchase of Anysphere to expand frontier AI capabilities.
