SpaceX Plans 1GW AI Satellite Network by 2027, Boosting Taiwan Suppliers

SpaceX announced that after its recent IPO it will deploy up to 1 GW of artificial‑intelligence computing capacity in orbit by the end of 2027. The first generation, called AI1, will carry Nvidia GB300 server racks that consume about 135 kW each, meaning roughly 7,400 racks must be built each year to meet the target. The company also outlined a roadmap to expand the constellation to 100 GW by 2030 and ultimately to a fleet of up to one million AI‑enabled satellites.

The satellites will operate as orbital data centres, using large solar arrays, high‑power cooling, and laser‑based inter‑satellite links that can deliver up to 1 Tbps per orbital plane. SpaceX expects this architecture to relieve pressure on terrestrial data‑centre sites and provide virtually limitless expansion for AI workloads.

Taiwan’s major original‑design manufacturers – including Foxconn, Quanta and Wistron – along with optical‑component firms such as Coherent and Lumentum, are positioned to supply the server hardware and laser‑communication modules needed for the program. The anticipated orders could drive a significant surge in business for these suppliers as SpaceX scales up production of the AI1 satellites.
