SpaceX Starship Flight 13 Deploys 20 Starlink V3 Satellites in Successful Test

On July 24 2026, SpaceX launched the 13th test flight of its Starship launch system from the Starbase facility in southern Texas. The vehicle flew in the upgraded Version 3 configuration, using the 33‑engine Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage (Ship 40). After a successful first‑stage ascent, the two stages separated; the booster performed a boost‑back maneuver and splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, though only a subset of its engines relit, resulting in a harder-than‑expected impact.

NASA monitored the flight, noting its importance for future lunar‑landing missions under the Artemis program.

The flight followed two earlier abort attempts on July 16 (engine‑start failure) and a weather‑related delay on July 23. The successful deployment of operational V3 satellites and the intact splashdown provide critical data for SpaceX’s goal of rapid, reusable launch operations and for expanding the Starlink internet service.
