SpaceX targets September 28 for Starship's first orbital mission

SpaceX is preparing for Starship Flight 14, which is currently targeted for September 28, pending regulatory approval from the FAA. This mission is expected to be a milestone as it aims to be the first true orbital mission for the Starship upper stage. The flight profile includes the upper stage reaching an altitude of approximately 275 kilometers and completing about six orbits of Earth over a 10-hour period.

During this mission, SpaceX plans to deploy 26 operational Starlink V3 satellites. These next-generation satellites are designed for significantly higher data throughput, supporting download speeds of up to 1 Tbps and upload speeds between 160 and 200 Gbps.

In separate launch activities, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully deployed 27 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base. This mission featured Booster 1063, which completed its 35th flight. Additionally, NASA has awarded SpaceX a $946 million contract to provide three additional Crew Dragon flights to the International Space Station (ISS).
