SpaceX receives FCC approval for new Starlink Wi-Fi 7 router
SpaceX has received equipment authorization from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its first Wi-Fi 7 router, identified as the UTR-261. The new device follows the Router Mini (UTR-251) and is designed for indoor use only.
Technical specifications from the regulatory filings indicate the router supports 802.11be EHT20 and EHT40 standards, which will likely provide reduced latency and improved network capacity. The hardware is expected to include two Ethernet ports, a USB-C port, and support for Power over Ethernet (PoE).
While Wi-Fi 7 technology offers significantly higher theoretical speeds than current Starlink satellite capabilities, the router is intended to maximize coverage and efficiency rather than directly increasing the 400Mbps limit currently offered by Starlink dishes. SpaceX has requested that the FCC keep device photos and user manuals confidential for 180 days. The device will be manufactured in Vietnam.
