SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage to impact Moon on Aug 5, 2026 FAST-MOVING
A section of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 upper stage, launched on 15 January 2025 carrying the Blue Ghost and Resilience lunar landers, will strike the Moon on 5 August 2026. The impact is predicted for 08:35 CET (02:35 UTC) near the Einstein crater in the Moon’s northern hemisphere, at a speed of about 8 690 km/h (≈5 400 mph). The fragment, weighing roughly 4 000–5 000 kg, is expected to create a crater 16–30 m wide and eject a plume of dust and rock.
NASA has confirmed there is no danger to Earth and will continue to track the trajectory for training and scientific observation. Scientists and amateur astronomers worldwide will monitor the event to study the effects of human‑made debris in cislunar space and to gather data on lunar surface properties.
