SpaceX reportedly approached AI startup Cognition for acquisition

SpaceX reportedly approached the AI coding startup Cognition regarding a potential acquisition, according to reports from Bloomberg. The move would have followed SpaceX’s recent $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, signaling a strategic push into the AI-assisted programming market.

Cognition CEO Scott Wu has publicly denied the reports, stating that the company is “not for sale” and that no such negotiations have taken place. While an acquisition is not currently active, sources suggest the two companies may still explore a compute partnership, which would allow Cognition to utilize SpaceX’s computing capacity.

Cognition, known for its AI programming agent Devin, maintains a high-profile client base including Mercedes-Benz, Citi, and Goldman Sachs. The startup was valued at $26 billion in May and is reportedly in discussions for new funding that could value the company at $40 billion.
