SpaceX experiences stock volatility despite surging Q2 revenue driven by AI

Following its June 2026 IPO, SpaceX has experienced significant stock volatility, with its market capitalization dropping by over $1 trillion from its peak. Despite this, recent second-quarter earnings showed a sharp rebound, with revenue growing 92% year-over-year to $7.8 billion. This growth is largely attributed to the company's pivot toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, including its xAI integration and the acquisition of the coding platform Cursor.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley have expressed a bullish outlook, viewing the recent price dip as a buying opportunity. The firm set a price target of $300 per share, citing the potential of a new Starbase launch facility in Louisiana and the company's expanding role in AI-driven computing.

However, the company's financial profile remains complex. While revenue is surging, SpaceX reported a quarterly loss of $541 million and high capital expenditures of $18.4 billion. Governance concerns have also been raised due to Elon Musk's significant control, as he holds approximately 48.4% of shares and maintains the vast majority of voting power.
