SpaceX shifts focus toward Starlink broadband and AI infrastructure
SpaceX is undergoing a significant strategic shift, with its revenue streams increasingly driven by broadband and artificial intelligence rather than traditional space launches. Recent data indicates that Starlink broadband accounts for approximately 55% of the company’s revenue, while its AI segment—which involves renting out Colossus datacenters to companies like Anthropic—contributes roughly 33%. In contrast, space launches now represent only about 12% of revenue.
The company’s AI segment generated $2.56 billion in Q2 revenue, though it also recorded $15.83 billion in capital expenditures and an operating loss of $1.26 billion. While agreements with Anthropic and Google imply significant annualized fees, analysts note that high capital intensity and customer concentration remain risks.
Additionally, SpaceX’s weight in the Nasdaq-100 has increased from 1.28% to 2.82% following a recent index rebalance, increasing the company's exposure within various exchange-traded funds.
