SpaceX Starship Flight 14 to attempt first orbital mission on September 28
SpaceX is preparing for Starship Flight 14, its first attempt to reach a full Earth orbit. Scheduled for September 28, the mission marks a transition from suborbital test flights to operational-class capabilities.
The mission aims to deploy 26 Starlink V3 satellites into orbit. Once in orbit, the spacecraft is expected to circle the Earth approximately six times over a ten-hour period at an altitude of roughly 275 kilometers. Following the orbital phase, the mission will conclude with a controlled splashdown in the Pacific Ocean west of Chile.
This flight follows a successful wet dress rehearsal completed on September 24. Unlike previous tests that utilized passively safe suborbital trajectories, Flight 14 will require the vehicle to maintain high orbital velocities. The mission also serves as a commercial milestone, as SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen has characterized it as the company’s first revenue-generating flight due to the satellite payload.
