SpaceX evolves into AI infrastructure player amid stock volatility

SpaceX is experiencing significant stock market volatility following its June 2026 initial public offering. While the company's valuation has reached over $2 trillion, the share price has seen sharp fluctuations, recently recovering to the mid-$140 range after hitting a post-IPO low near $105 in August.

Analysts at Oppenheimer suggest the company is evolving beyond a traditional aerospace firm into a major player in artificial intelligence infrastructure. This shift is supported by SpaceX's $60 billion acquisition of Cursor and investments in Nvidia's Rubin chips. The company's AI segment reported approximately $2.7 billion in revenue during the second quarter.

Financial reports indicate strong fundamentals, with second-quarter revenue climbing 92% year-over-year to $7.8 billion. Growth is being driven by Starlink, which reached 12 million subscribers, and over $6 billion in new Starshield government contracts. However, investors remain cautious due to high valuation levels and heavy spending on AI infrastructure.
