SpaceX targets massive expansion in global computing power
SpaceX is pivoting toward becoming a major player in global digital infrastructure by aggressively expanding its computing power. Elon Musk has suggested that current projections for the company’s computational growth are conservative, stating he would be “quite disappointed” if the actual figures did not exceed optimistic estimates.
Research from ARK Invest suggests that the gigawatts of active computing power linked to SpaceX could multiply by 40 between 2025 and 2030. This expansion marks a shift from a company primarily focused on space transport and Starlink to a massive technological infrastructure platform. The growth is driven by the convergence of space operations and the massive demand for artificial intelligence data centers.
Estimates indicate that SpaceX’s AI-related computing capacity could reach approximately 1.4 gigawatts by the second quarter of 2026, with potential targets reaching 10 gigawatts by 2027. This scale of energy and processing requirement positions the company as a critical node for defense, commercial, and AI applications globally.
