SpaceX targets September 28 for Starship Flight 14 orbital mission

SpaceX has updated its target launch date for Starship Flight 14, now aiming for as early as Monday, September 28, 2026, pending regulatory approval. This represents a delay from the previously anticipated September 22 window.

Flight 14 is significant as the rocket’s first planned orbital mission, moving beyond the suborbital trajectories used in its previous 13 test flights. The mission profile includes the upper stage reaching an altitude of approximately 275 kilometers and completing six orbits before a controlled deorbit and splashdown in the Pacific Ocean west of Chile.

A primary objective of this flight is the deployment of 26 third-generation Starlink V3 satellites. These satellites are expected to provide significantly higher network capacity compared to previous versions. Additionally, three of the satellites are equipped with specialized cameras to inspect the Starship’s thermal-protective tiles while in space. The Super Heavy booster is expected to perform an offshore landing in the Gulf.
