SpaceX to build $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana

SpaceX has announced plans to construct a massive new spaceport in Louisiana, estimated to cost at least $100 billion. The facility, referred to as Starbase Louisiana, will be located in Vermilion Parish along the Gulf of Mexico.

The complex is designed primarily to support the Starship mega-rocket, which is intended for missions to the Moon, Mars, and various orbital applications. The facility aims to be self-sufficient, featuring its own fuel production, energy generation, deep-water maritime transport, vehicle processing, and an airport. Long-term plans include more than a dozen launch towers with the capacity to facilitate over 30 Starship launches per day.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first Starship launch from the site projected for 2029. The project is expected to have a significant economic impact, with SpaceX estimating the creation of over 3,000 direct jobs. Additional estimates suggest the project could generate thousands of indirect jobs and support coastal restoration and erosion control efforts in the region.
