SpaceX to build massive AI data center in Texas

SpaceX is preparing to construct at least one new, large‑scale AI data center in Texas, with the possibility of multiple facilities. The project follows a review of several potential sites and includes plans to modernise an existing warehouse and to move staff to the new location. The expansion is intended to boost the company’s artificial‑intelligence computing capacity beyond its existing Memphis operation, which already runs two data centers with roughly one gigawatt of power.

SpaceXAI, the unit created after the acquisition of the xAI startup, currently operates the Colossus data centre in Tennessee, housing hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs. It has secured compute‑supply agreements with AI firms such as Anthropic, Google and Reflection AI. The Google deal, for example, involves about 110,000 GPUs and is projected to generate substantial monthly revenue. In parallel, SpaceX continues its broader AI ambitions, including the AI‑satellite “AI1” program and a proposal to launch up to one million orbital computing satellites.

The Texas data‑center plan underscores SpaceX’s strategy to become a major provider of AI compute infrastructure both on the ground and in space.
