SpaceX unveils Starlink Gen3 satellites with high-capacity throughput
SpaceX has revealed technical specifications and deployment footage for its next-generation Starlink satellite architecture. New video shows Starlink V3 satellites deploying from the Starship launch vehicle, highlighting the autonomous coordination required to manage the world’s largest satellite constellation.
The upcoming Gen3 satellites are designed with a 250 kW power payload, providing more electrical power than the International Space Station. These spacecraft will feature a bidirectional data capacity of 10 Tbps and utilize onboard edge computing powered by Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 hardware. This architecture enables real-time signal processing, digital beamforming, and dynamic RF power allocation without relying solely on ground stations.
This technological leap aims to support high-density 5G direct-to-device connectivity and multi-gigabit broadband. SpaceX noted that maintaining constant communication is essential for orbital safety, allowing the company to manage maneuvering responsibilities and mitigate risks associated with other operators in low Earth orbit who may not share predicted trajectories.
