Spain adds 610 MW of solar capacity with new La Rioja and Palencia parks

The companies ARESOL and RENERTIA inaugurated the Casafuerte solar parks in La Rioja, comprising nine photovoltaic installations with a combined capacity of 360 MW. The complex is expected to generate more than 600 GWh of clean electricity per year, representing over a third of the region's total consumption. The project involved an investment exceeding €320 million and will avoid the emission of about 220,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, while providing long‑term lease contracts to more than 200 local landowners.

Matrix Renewables completed its solar cluster in Palencia with the opening of the 50‑MW Adelfa Solar plant, bringing the total capacity of its five‑plant portfolio in the province to 250 MW. The €227 million investment can supply electricity to roughly 125,000 households. The company highlighted plans for battery storage and hybrid wind‑solar projects, and emphasized local socioeconomic benefits, including job creation, municipal tax revenue and educational and environmental initiatives.

Both projects illustrate Spain's expanding renewable‑energy infrastructure, substantial capital deployment, and the integration of social and environmental objectives into large‑scale solar developments.
