Spain advances biomedical research through new funding and support programs

Spain is advancing its biomedical research capabilities through new support programs and significant funding for neurological studies. The Health Research Institute of Castilla-La Mancha (IDISCAM) has launched the second edition of the IDISCAM Science College. This program provides specialized scientific advisory and support to help both junior and senior researchers improve the design and quality of their research projects, specifically aiming to increase success rates in competitive calls such as those from the Health Institute Carlos III (ISCIII).

In conjunction with efforts to bolster research competitiveness, the ISCIII has reaffirmed its commitment to Alzheimer's disease research. Between 2018 and 2025, the ISCIII has funded 148 Alzheimer's research projects totaling nearly 25.5 million euros. The institute operates through various laboratories, including the Functional Research Unit for Chronic Diseases (UFIEC), and supports specialized entities like the Center for Research in Neurological Diseases (CIEN) and the neurodegenerative diseases area of the CIBER Biomedical Research Network. Internationally, the ISCIII participates in European initiatives such as the European Partnership for Brain Health and the EBRAINS infrastructure.
