Spain advances digital tourism data platform and smart‑city initiatives

The State-owned Society for Innovation and Tourism Technologies (Segittur) and the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH) have begun integrating hotel operational data into Spain's Intelligent Destination Platform (PID). Piloted in hotels in Barcelona and Mallorca, the system connects property‑management systems to a secure analytics tool, delivering daily market indicators such as occupancy, ADR and RevPAR to improve competitive decision‑making.

Separately, the Spanish Smart Cities Network (RECI) convened its first Technical Committee 2026 in Huelva, gathering more than 250 municipal leaders, technology firms and experts. The two‑day event emphasized digital innovation for sustainability, showcasing projects that use data, artificial intelligence, digital twins and open‑innovation platforms to advance energy transition, climate resilience and efficient urban services. Participants highlighted increased municipal tech budgets, European funding opportunities and collaborations with companies such as ESRI Spain, Telefónica and Orange.
