Spain advances energy efficiency in school renovations and new housing
The Xunta de Galicia has completed a 3.8 million euro comprehensive renovation of the IES Lucus Augusti high school in Lugo. The project focused on energy efficiency, accessibility, and acoustic insulation. Key upgrades include the installation of over 1,200 square meters of thermal insulation, 242 new wooden windows and doors, and 863 LED lights. These improvements are expected to reduce energy consumption and emissions by an average of 36%. The renovation also addressed structural needs such as waterproofing and the renewal of heating, electrical, and telecommunications systems, while improving accessibility through new ramps.
In a separate development, Naturgy subsidiary Nedgia and developer Metrovacesa have partnered to launch 'Green Gas Ready' buildings in Madrid and A Coruña. More than 430 homes across four new developments will feature installations capable of using both natural gas and biomethane, a renewable gas derived from organic waste. This hybrid approach allows residents to transition to renewable energy using existing infrastructure. The initial projects include Residencial Alyssa and Residencial Zinnia in Madrid, and Residencial Torre Aura and Residencial Torre Cenit in A Coruña.
