Spain advances green hydrogen and building decarbonisation with new digital platforms

The Fundación Ciudad de la Energía (CIUDEN) has equipped its León site with a digital system that coordinates renewable sources, stores energy and runs electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen and synthetic fuels. The hybrid micro‑grid testbed, funded by the national Recovery Plan, follows IEC 61850 and IEC 62443 standards and allows real‑time optimisation of electricity flows, hydrogen generation and methanol synthesis for industrial use.

The National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) has created the BUDA digital platform for the Navarre regional government to assess and prioritise decarbonisation measures across 196 public buildings. The tool integrates consumption data, energy certificates and construction details, enabling scenario analysis for envelope retrofits, heat‑pump electrification, LED lighting and photovoltaic self‑consumption, thereby supporting the region’s roadmap toward climate neutrality.
