Spain advances major road projects in Cáceres and Ciudad Real provinces

The Spanish Ministry of Transport is proceeding with two large‑scale road upgrades. In the province of Cáceres, the Malpartida de Cáceres variant will create a 10.7‑km bypass of the N‑521, duplicate the carriageway to the A‑66 and divert traffic away from the town centre. The project, funded with €48.5 million from EU Next Generation EU funds, aims to cut noise, improve air quality and increase safety for local residents.

In the province of Ciudad Real, a study for converting the N‑430 into a high‑performance road includes a viaduct at Puebla de Don Rodrigo, a third lane for overtaking and alternative alignments for five municipalities. The 200‑km improvement, budgeted at €952 million, is expected to reduce traffic accidents by about 65 % and help curb depopulation. Technical design is slated for 2027‑2029 with construction planned for 2029‑2031.
