Spain advances plastic recycling with regional project and national public‑procurement guide
The Agrupación de Sociedades Asturianas de Trabajo Asociado y Economía Social (ASATA) has launched a sustainable management project for agricultural and livestock plastic waste in the Comarca Oscos‑Eo, Asturias. Backed by the Ministry of Rights, Social, Consumption and Agenda 2030 through the Rombo 3M innovation centre, the initiative aims to create an integrated collection and recycling system, reduce environmental impact, promote circular‑economy practices, generate green jobs and involve local municipalities and farmers in education programmes.
Separately, Veolia, together with the Fundación de la Universidad da Coruña and the National Association of Plastic Recyclers (ANARPLA), has published a practical guide to integrate recycled plastic into public procurement across Spain. Director Rafael Sánchez said, “Nuestro principal objetivo es garantizar la seguridad jurídica a los órganos de contratación,” emphasizing the guide’s role in providing standardized, legally‑secure criteria for administrations. The guide offers eight sector‑specific fiches, basic and advanced implementation levels, and seeks to stabilise demand for recycled plastic, encouraging investment in innovative recycling technologies and supporting Spain’s circular‑economy targets.
