Spain advances solar energy through battery storage and hybrid technology
In Soria, Spain, the regional industry service has approved the hybridization of the Marte Solar photovoltaic park in Frechilla de Almazán. Promoted by Solaria Promoción y Desarrollo Fotovoltaico, S.L.U., the project will add a battery energy storage system (BESS) to the existing 15.15 MW infrastructure. The new installation will feature eight lithium-ion battery containers, providing a storage power of 7.599 MW and an energy capacity of 30.4 MWh.
Separately, researchers at the Almería Solar Platform, part of Ciemat, are working on the Hypergen project to develop a new generation of hybrid solar plants. This initiative utilizes bifacial collectors to combine photovoltaic and concentrated solar thermal technologies. The goal is to increase energy yield and improve performance during unfavorable weather conditions, such as periods of high diffuse radiation or haze, by better utilizing the solar spectrum.
