Spain agricultural insurance claims projected to reach 441 million euros in 2026

Agricultural insurance claims in Spain are projected to reach 441 million euros for the period between January 1 and August 26, 2026. According to data from Agroseguro and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, approximately 1.28 million hectares of insured land have been affected by climate-related incidents.

August 2026 has been identified as the month with the highest level of claims in the history of Spanish agricultural insurance. Severe hailstorms and storms throughout the month have damaged roughly 54,600 hectares, with expected indemnities for August alone reaching 50 million euros. Most of these damages are attributed to hail, affecting nearly 49,200 hectares.

The most impacted crops include vineyards, almonds, persimmons, citrus, various fruits, corn, sunflower, and vegetables. Regional damage has been widespread, with significant impacts reported in the Valencian Community, Murcia, Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, La Rioja, Navarra, and Catalonia. Additionally, fires have affected 16,377 hectares, with projected indemnities of approximately 2.7 million euros.
