Spain allocates 19 million euros annually to combat drug trafficking in Andalusia

Spain's Ministry of the Interior is allocating more than 19 million euros annually to technological resources and police intelligence to combat drug trafficking networks along the Andalusian coast. This funding is part of the Special Security Plan for the Campo de Gibraltar.

According to a parliamentary response, the investment in material, technological, and investigative support is projected to reach 19.4 million euros for 2026, with potential increases in 2027. The Ministry stated that measures implemented since 2018 have helped to “recover spaces previously dominated by criminal networks and weaken the logistical and financial structure of drug trafficking.”

The Special Security Plan, launched by Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska in 2018, has been extended for a fifth time until December 31, 2027. The plan currently covers all coastal provinces of Andalusia and Seville, specifically regarding the Guadalquivir River. It also includes 18.8 million euros for structural and organizational measures to reinforce the personnel of the National Police and the Civil Guard.
