Spain allocates 518 million euros to decarbonize 17 factories
Spain's Ministry of Industry and Tourism has allocated 518.2 million euros to support the decarbonization of 17 operational factories. This funding, managed by SEPIDES, is part of the Industrial Decarbonization PERTE under the REPowerEU component of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The grants aim to replace fossil fuels like gas and coal with electricity, biomass, and solar thermal energy. The projects involve a total financeable investment of 1,250.8 million euros. Funding was distributed through a non-competitive process based on the order of application, as industrial demand exceeded the initial budget, which was expanded from 329.7 million to the final 518.2 million euros.
Beneficiaries are spread across eight autonomous communities. Catalonia received the largest share with approximately 264 million euros for seven projects. Other recipients include Castilla y León (119.6 million), Galicia (56.6 million), Aragón (30.2 million), Castilla-La Mancha (25 million), Navarra (18.2 million), Valencian Community (3.5 million), and Extremadura (1.6 million). The cement sector represents a significant portion of the investment, including 200 million euros for Cemex in Alcanar.
