The Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) warned that the Canary Islands will exceed the EU‑recommended public‑spending ratio, projecting 4.6 % in 2026 and 7.2 % in 2027, both above the limits of 3.5 % and 4.0 %. AIReF noted that the 2026‑2027 Economic‑Financial Plan contains no new spending‑containment actions and that a €29 million health‑sector saving lacks concrete implementation.

Matilde Asián, the regional finance minister, signed the order to start drafting the 2027 General Budget, with a deadline of 1 November for parliamentary submission. The draft will prioritise health, education, housing, digital transformation and environmental projects.
