Spain and Algeria postpone high-level bilateral summit
The high-level bilateral summit between Algeria and Spain has been postponed. The eighth session of the joint commission, which was expected to take place in the final quarter of 2026, will now likely be rescheduled for after the Spanish legislative elections.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called for early elections on November 29, 2026, following political disagreements in Parliament. Government sources indicate that it is preferable to hold the diplomatic meeting once the election results are finalized, as the outcome of the vote will determine the government that receives the Algerian head of state.
The postponement follows previous discussions held during Pedro Sánchez’s visit to Algeria in July. While some observers had suggested dates in late October, the delay has been officially noted, reflecting the current political instability in Madrid.
