Spain and Andalusia coordinate El Algarrobico hotel demolition
The Government of Spain and the Junta de Andalucía have reached an agreement to coordinate efforts regarding the demolition of the El Algarrobico hotel in Carboneras, Almería, and the subsequent restoration of the affected natural environment.
Following the Carboneras City Council's declaration of nullity regarding the building's construction license in July, both administrations met via videoconference to establish a roadmap for restoring territorial legality. The coordination aims to ensure the demolition and environmental recovery are carried out by the developer, following a 2011 protocol that divides responsibilities: the State is tasked with the demolition of the structure, while the Junta de Andalucía is responsible for debris removal, waste management, and the restoration of the natural landscape.
While political debates in the Andalusian Parliament have centered on specific timelines, budgets, and financing, officials emphasized that the priority is to ensure legal certainty and follow judicial rulings to prevent future legal challenges. The goal is to expedite the process while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory procedures.
