Spain and Canada sign new audiovisual co-production treaty

Spain and Canada have signed a new audiovisual co-production treaty to foster joint projects between their respective film and television industries. The agreement was signed by Marta Serrano, Director General of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), and Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Canadian Identity and Official Languages, during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The new treaty replaces a bilateral framework that had been in place since 1985. It modernizes production conditions to better suit the evolving audiovisual landscape, offering increased flexibility for collaborations. The agreement expands the scope of co-productions to include film, television, and video works, regardless of their duration or genre.
